The complete mitochondria genome of Aldrichina grahami (Diptera: Calliphoridae)

Abstract: Aldrichina grahami is a significant medical and forensic insect belonging to the family calliphoridae. In this study, we present the complete mitochondrial genome of A. grahami for the first time. The mitogenome was 14 903 bp in length, consisting of 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and 13 protein-encoding genes. The overall base compositions of A, G, C and T were 39.14, 9.59, 13.65 and 37.62%, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis is conducted using 12 mitochondrial… Show more

“…The length of tRNA genes ranged from 63 to 72 bp. All PCGs started with "ATN" codons except for COI which started with TCG, and terminate with the common stop codons TNN, which is similar to the previous results in other Diptera species (Chen et al 2016;Ren et al 2016;Zhu et al 2016). The lrRNA and srRNA genes are 1364 and 786 bp in length, respectively.…”

“…The length of the three complete mt genomes are 16,171 bp in Cestrotus liui , 16,286 bp in Pachycerina decemlineata and 16,426 bp in Spanicelyphus pilosus . They are medium-sized when compared with the mt genomes of other Cyclorrhapha, which range from 14,903 bp ( Aldrichina grahami , Calliphoridae) [ 54 ] to 19,517 bp ( Drosophila melanogaster , Drosophilidae) [ 26 ]. Within cyclorrhaphan mt genomes, length variation is limited in the PCGs, tRNA, and rRNA genes, but there is remarkable variation in the size of the control region ( Figure 2 ).…”

“…In general, the insect mitogenome has 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 21 to 23 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) 6 . It also contains several non-coding regions with the lengthiest being AT-rich control region (Table 1 ) 7 . A typical metazoan mitogenome is small in size, maternally inherited, mutation prone, has minimal or no homologous recombination, with conserved gene content, and high genetic polymorphism, making it a potential sequence for barcoding, phylogeography, phylogenetic and molecular dating research 8 10 .…”
