The complete k-arcs of PG(2, 27) and PG(2, 29)

Abstract: A full classification (up to equivalence) of all complete k-arcs in the Desarguesian projective planes of order 27 and 29 was obtained by computer. The resulting numbers of complete arcs are tabulated according to size of the arc and type of the automorphism group, and also according to the type of algebraic curve into which they can be embedded. For the arcs with the larger automorphism groups, explicit descriptions are given. The algorithm used for generating the arcs is an application of isomorphfree backtra… Show more

“…We verified by computer that applying Theorem 2.1 to the pairs (A, B) listed above, and choosing the largest of S 1 (A, B), S 2 (A, B), or S 12 (A, B) in each case, yields an arc that is complete, except for the three small cases (q, A, B) = (7, 1, −1), (7,1,3), and (13,1,5).…”

“…If h i = 0, for i ≤ 9, then all expressions in (1) are nonzero. In (6,7,8), there are nine linear expressions, 12 expressions of degree 2, and six expressions of degree 3. Then, there are at most 51 values of a ∈ GF (q) such that h i (a) = 0, for some i.…”

“…The projectivity group which preserves a (q+1)–arc scriptK in PG(2,q), with q odd, can be shown to be isomorphic to the projective linear group PGL(2,q) and acts on scriptK as PGL(2,q) in its natural 3–transitive permutation representation. Arcs with many projectivities were investigated in several papers, see .…”
