The Comparison of Nutritional Value of Human Milk with Other Mammals’ Milk

Abstract: (1) Background: The variation in the concentration of different components found in milk depends on mammalian species, genetic, physiological, nutritional factors, and environmental conditions. Here, we analyse, for the first time, the content of different components (cholesterol concentration and fatty acids composition as well as the overall fat and mineral content determined using the same analytical methods) in milk of different mammal species. (2) Methods: The samples (n = 52) of human, cow, sheep, goat a… Show more

“…Currently, the most common infant formula is based on bovine milk. In regards to fat, minerals, and protein, bovine milk contains higher concentrations compared to human milk [ 37 , 82 ]. However, the concentration and diversity of many other nutrients and biochemical components, such as SMOs, are significantly lower in bovine milk-based infant formulas [ 37 , 83 ].…”

“…Fat in human milk is absorbed at around 92%. It is vital to notice that the amount of cholesterol was lower in breast milk than in cow’s or sheep milk [ 24 ]. The composition of FA is dependent on the mother’s diet.…”
