Highlights• Ramulariais the correct name for species in Mycosphaerella s. str.• Most species named in Mycosphaerella represent other genera.• Very few Ramularia spp. have confirmed Mycosphaerella sexual morphs.• Ramularia contains both host-specific, and wide host range species. AbstractIn this study we aimed to resolve the Ramularia endophylla species-complex by applying a polyphasic approach involving morphology and multi-gene phylogeny. Eleven partial genes were targeted for amplification and sequencing for a total of 81 isolates representing R. endophylla s. lat. and 32 isolates representing 11 Ramularia species that were previously linked to a Mycosphaerella sexual morph in literature. A Bayesian phylogenetic analysis, as well as a parsimony analysis, was performed on a combined five-locus dataset and the resulting trees showed significant support for three species within the complex, including the previously described R. endophylla and R. vizellae, and one novel species, Ramularia unterseheri. A parsimony analysis was also separately performed with mating-type gene sequences (MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-2-1) and the resulting tree topologies were in accordance with that of the multigene analysis. A bibliographic review of the proposed links between Ramularia spp. and their purported Mycosphaerella sexual morphs is also presented, confirming six connections in Ramularia. In spite of more than 10 000 species having been described in Mycosphaerella, the majority is shown to belong to other genera, suggesting that the taxa identified as Mycosphaerella in much of the plant pathology literature needs to be revisited.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de extratos de capeba (Piper marginatum) e nim (Azadirachta indica) sobre o fungo Colletotrichum scovillei e determinar o componente mais ativo no controle pós-colheita da antracnose em pimentão. A atividade de extratos metanólicos das folhas (P. marginatum e A. indica) e das sementes (A. indica) a 0, 125, 250, 500, 1.000 e 2.000 ppm, na inibição do crescimento micelial de C. scovillei in vitro foram avaliadas. O extrato metanólico de folhas de P. marginatum foi o mais ativo e, consequentemente, foi submetido ao fracionamento biomonitorado ("bioassay-guided fractionation"). Esse processo rendeu 10 frações majoritárias, obtidas por cromatografia líquida de alta performance, das quais a fração à concentração de 1,5 ppm inibiu o desenvolvimento de C. scovillei de forma mais eficiente do que o fungicida mancozeb.Termos para indexação: Capsicum annuum, antracnose, controle alternativo, fracionamento biomonitorado, nim. Extracts of Piper marginatum and Azadirachta indica for the control of Colletotrichum scovillei in bell pepperAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of extracts of capeba (Piper marginatum) and neem (Azadirachta indica) on the fungus Colletotrichum scovillei, and evaluate the most active compound on the post-harvest control of anthracnose in bell pepper. Methanolic extracts activity of leaves (P. marginatum and A. indica) and of seeds (A. indica) at 0, 125, 250, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 ppm, for in vitro inhibition of mycelial growth of C. scovillei, were evaluated. The methanolic extract of P. marginatum leaves was the most active and, consequently, it was subjected to a bioassay-guided fractionation. This processing produced ten major compounds, obtained by preparative HPLC, from which the fraction at 1.5 ppm concentration was capable of inhibiting mycelial growth and was more effective than the fungicide mancozeb.

Colletotrichum species are related with anthracnose of a wide-ranging of host plants containing cultivated and wild tropical fruits. The genetic and ecological variety of species connected with wild fruits exist poorly explored, as associated to those affiliated with pre and post harvest diseases of cultivated fruits. It is needed to re-assess the evolutionary relationships of Colletotrichum species arising in cultivated and wild fruits with prominence on their ecology and cryptic divergence containing sampling at regional and global scales. This study we will examine to analysis of sequences of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS).To observe phylogenetic associations and closeness within Colletotrichum species. Multi-locus phylogenetic analysis of strains of the Colletotrichum complex associated with anthracnose.
