The collective structure of106,108Ru

Abstract: Levels in 106, lOSRu have been studied by measuring 77 coincidences and 77 directional correlations of the 7-rays following the fl--decay of 36 s 1~and 5 s lO8Tc" Tc activities were separated chemically from the fission products of thermal neutron induced fission of 239pu by the continuously running system "SISAK 2" and the 7-radiation was measured on-line. An extended level scheme for l~ spin assignments, E2/M1 multipole mixing ratios and B(E2) ratios for l~ and l~ have been obtained. The collective structure… Show more

“…The first transition is from spherical vibrators to triaxial γ-soft nuclei (around A ∼ 104-110) [1][2][3][4][5][6], with increasing rigidity when going towards more neutron-rich species [6][7][8][9]. The exact location of the second shape transition, from triaxial prolate to triaxial oblate [10], is diffia e-mail: juho.j-a.rissanen@jyu.fi b Present address: Turku PET Centre, Accelerator Laboratory,Åbo Akademi University, FI-20500 Turku, Finland.…”

“…A detailed decay scheme of this nucleus has been published by Stachel et al [12]; it contains 49 7-transitions, which depopulate 20 levels with energies between 242 keV and 3098 keV. Most of these transitions have also been observed in the /?7-matrix of the present experiment.…”

“…?-matrix and could be assigned to the decay of 1~ according to the endpoint energy of the coincident /?-spectrum. Only the results for those y-transitions, however, which had been placed in the decay scheme of [12], are included in Table 1 and are used for the calculation of the total decay energy of this nucleus, cf. Table 2.…”

“…The latter seems to belong to an isotope with a shorter half-life than that of 1~ but its origin could not be identified unambiguously in the present work. Collective properties of the isotopes l~176176 (see Table 2) were deduced from the lifetimes of their 2 + states, taking into account previously reported 7-asymmetry parameters of about 240 [3][4][5]. The centroid shifts for the relevant 2 + ~ 0 + transitions and some other ones in the same energy range are shown in Fig.…”

“…Evidence for triaxiality of even-even Ru isotopes has been presented in [2][3][4][5], and lifetimes of some of their 2 + states have been measured in fission studies [6][7][8][9]. It seems, however, that in these experiments the nearly identical energies of the 2 + ---* 0 + transitions in l~ and 11~ could not be separated.…”
