The clinical success of different root canal treatments in primary molars

Abstract:
Objectives: To examine the success rate of root canal treatment in primary molars with the use two different root canal instrumentation ways, irrigation solutions and root canal sealers.

Materials and Methods: Root canal treatment was applied to 120 second primary molars of 69 children between 5-8 years old. The teeth were divided in 8 groups randomly according to instrumentation ways [conventional stainless-steel hand files … Show more

“…Only one study (Subramaniam et al ) compared the cleaning effectiveness (microbial reduction) of both techniques, while no studies evaluated the behaviour of children during root canal treatment in primary teeth with either of the techniques. Five authors (Guler et al , Gomes et al , Vieyra & Enriquez , Mokhtari et al , Govindaraju et al ,) were contacted by email to obtain the missing data or additional data, but only two authors (Vieyra & Enriquez , Mokhtari et al ) responded with the data. However, the data could not be pooled for quantitative analysis.…”

“…It was clearly known that fundamentally the main philosophy of a root canal treatment is filling all the spaces from which pulp removal was done in the root canal following shaping and cleaning procedures. [1][2][3] From this point of view, it is necessary to have an idea about all the internal morphological diversity in the root canal system where the pulp is likely to occupy space. 1 Root canal treatment consists of access cavity preparation and determination of working length, followed by chemo-mechanical preparation and obturation of root canal system in both dentitions.…”
