The Clinical Significance of Simultaneous IL-17A and IL-17F Blockade in Psoriasis Non-Responding to Anti-IL17A Therapy

Abstract: The better understanding of the immunopathogenesis of psoriasis has led to the development of highly efficacious targeted therapies with favorable safety profiles. Among them, the class of Interleukin (IL)-17 antibodies are well established for the treatment of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis. Bimekizumab is a new antibody that simultaneously neutralizes IL-17A and IL-17F. We present two patients with psoriasis, who lost response to several biologics, among them IL-17 antagonists suc… Show more

“…IL-17A-producing T cells. This may explain the clinical observation that simultaneous blockade of IL-17A and IL-17F resulted in successful treatment of patients who failed to respond to selective anti IL17A therapy before ( 41 ). Besides, IL-17F may also play a role in the recurrent course of psoriasis ( 42 ).…”

“…Psoriasis is one of the most common erythematous scaly diseases in dermatology. It is characterized by sharply defined patches with silvery scales on the surface accompanied by systemic manifestations ( 1 ). The etiopathogenesis is complex, and it is currently believed to be a chronic inflammatory disease mediated by the immune system against a genetic background ( 2 ).…”
