The clinical characteristics of alcohol-related ocular rupture

Abstract: Drinking more easily leads to injury of the front part of eyes. Moreover, the drunken patients had a worse visual acuity outcome, longer wound length, higher evisceration rate, and were more prone to endure adnexa injuries. The importance of prevention and education to recognize the hazards of drinking cannot be overemphasized.

“…Intoxicated patients are more prone to road side accidents/assaults. Alcohol-related ocular injuries have been found to be associated with severe globe rupture with high incidence of adnexal injuries and were associated with worse visual outcome and higher rates of evisceration102. Among addicts, polydrug use is very common; so, variable ocular and systemic effects can be seen due to combined mechanisms.…”

“…The worst prognosis is for injuries resulting from assault/beating and injuries sustained in motorcycle accidents [4]. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that the state under the influence of alcohol is not only conducive to the occurrence of serious eye injury but also tends to worsen the prognosis when the injury occurs [5]. Work-related eye injuries can be categorized as traumatic injuries and exposure injuries.…”
