The clinical application of the sliding loop technique for renorrhaphy during robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy: Surgical technique and outcomes

Abstract: PurposeTo report the initial clinical outcomes of the newly devised sliding loop technique (SLT) used for renorrhaphy in patients who underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RALPN) for small renal mass.Materials and MethodsWe reviewed the surgical videos and medical charts of 31 patients who had undergone RALPN with the SLT renorrhaphy performed by two surgeons (CWJ and CK) between January 2014 and October 2014. SLT renorrhaphy was performed after tumor excision and renal parenchymal defect … Show more

“…Surgical bolsters were used to shallow defects in the early robotic experiences , but were rarely used in more recent series (Table ). To reduce renorrhaphy time, some authors reported the use of self‐retaining barbed sutures either for inner‐layer renorrhaphy or during cortical renorrhaphy . Minervini et al.…”

“…Renorrhaphy stands out as one of the key steps during RAPN, and this becomes technically more demanding in case of hilar masses due to its close proximity to critical structures [92][93][94][95]. Several strategies have been adopted and described to date [96][97][98][99][100][101].…”

“…All patients underwent off-clamp PN with the enucleation technique. The sliding-clip technique of renorrhaphy was performed in all patients [21]. All robot-assisted NPs were performed in the same center, while open NPs were performed in both centers.…”
