The church of the transfiguration of the savior at Kizhi pogost

Abstract: Traditional Russian wooden architecture is containing some types of wooden churches (cell churches, tent-roof churches, kub-roof churches, multi-domed and tiered churches and others). One of the most outstanding, striking and a&active type is Russian wooden multi-domed churches. They were part of a very ancient architectural tradition (wooden thirteen-domed Novgorodian St. Sophia, 980). Unfortunately the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior at Kizhi (1714) is now the only one of its kind.
