The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Match: Problems and Potential Solutions

Abstract: Alternatively, problems exposed in the initial years of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Match present the opportunity to design solutions that will strengthen it. “…During the 25 years of use, the role of the Match in recruitment for child and adolescent psychiatry has been discussed at length at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AAD-PRT) annual meetings due to persistent concerns of unfilled positions. During the first 10 years, with relatively low utilization by programs, several papers urged programs to use the Match and encouraged AADPRT and AACAP to introduce consequences for programs that did not participate [1,2].
