“…Friction results in a larger N 2 /N 1 ratio that grows with friction coefficient and volume fraction. For dense regimes φ & 0.4 and large friction coefficients µ d & 0.3, N 2 /N 1 is in the range 3⇠4, which matches quite well the experiments from Zarraga et al (2000) who found N 2 /N 1 ⇡ 3.6. Unlike their results however, our simulations suggest that N 2 /N 1 has a φ-dependence which is well-marked in the range 0.2⇠0.4.…”
