“…We tried to identify them by GC/MS. Using available standards (ergosterol, lanosterol and squalene) and data about sterol MS fragmentation obtained by other authors [15–17] we were able to identify squalene and six sterols which all represented intermediates in a principal sterol pathway leading from lanosterol to ergosterol with the exception of ergosta‐8,24(28) dienol.
