The characteristics of rare earth elements in bulk precipitation, throughfall, foliage and lichens in the Lesní potok catchment and its vicinity, Czech Republic

Abstract: A comparison of rare earth elements' (REE) atmospheric signatures in various ecosystem compartments was carried out in the vicinity of the Lesní potok catchment (LP), Czech Republic. REE signatures were investigated from 2004 to 2006 in rainwater, throughfall, tree foliage ( Picea abies , Fagus sylvatica ) and lichens ( Hypogymnia physodes ) for selected elements (Al, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, S, Si). REE concentrations increased in the fo… Show more

“…The catchment is well‐characterized in terms of its physical properties (soils, geology, vegetation, hydrology; Janoušek et al, 2014; Navrátil et al, 2003). Lesní potok was the site of studies on beryllium cycling (Navrátil et al, 2002; Skrivan et al, 1993), lead geochemistry (Navrátil et al, 2004), manganese cycling (Navrátil et al, 2007), rare earth elements in vegetation (Špičková et al, 2010) and Hg in soils (Navrátil et al, 2014) and stream water (Navrátil et al, 2015). The long‐term chemistry and hydrology database and previous history of research on Hg and other trace metals sets up Lesní potok well for the present study on Hg cycling.…”
