The characteristics of multifocal electroretinogram in isolated perfused porcine eye

Abstract: We investigated characteristics of multifocal electroretinograms (mfERG) from in vitro perfused porcine eyes. TTX, NMDA, APB, and PDA were used to identify contributions to the mfERG from inner retinal neurons, ON-pathway, OFF-pathway, and photoreceptors. The cellular contributions of the first-order kernel (K1) in an isolated perfused porcine mfERG came from both inner and outer retina, and were similar to those of in vivo porcine mfERG. In addition, application of isoflurane and propofol caused interference … Show more

“…The cellular origin for the response related to mfERG is still under investigation, but both the inner and outer retina then seem to contribute to the P1 wave form [24]. Oxygen consumption in different retinal layers has been investigated [25], but in what way this contributes to the alteration of the P1 is still not understood.…”

“…9 In experimental studies recordings typically last from 3 to 14 minutes. 2,3,6,1018 The balance between the signal-to-noise ratio and the exhaustion of the examined individual determines the necessary duration of a recording. It is likely that when animals are anesthetized the noise is minimal and shorter recordings would be sufficient.…”
