The characteristic periodicity analysis of the radio flux variability of quasar PKS 1510-089

Abstract: A wavelet analysis method is introduced to study the possible periods of PKS 1510-089 in radio bands. By compiling the radio light curve of PKS 1510-089 at frequencies of 22 and 37 GHz from 1990 to 2005, and using the wavelet analysis method, the evidence of quasi-periodic activity in PKS 1510-089 was obtained. The results indicate that: (1) There are two stable outburst periods of T 1 =(1.80±0.06) yr and T 2 = (0.90±0.07) yr presenting in the isoplethal map of PKS 1510-089 at the radio band 37 GHz; (2) there … Show more

“…Based on 27-year long UMRAO data of PKS 1510-089 at 4.8, 8 and 14.5 GHz, Fan et al (2007) claimed a possible ∼12-year periodicity. The 15-year long 22 and 37 GHz radio data from 1990 to 2005 revealed two periodicities of 0.9 years and 1.8 years, which agrees well with the deep flux minima periodicity of 1.84 years and thereby, strengthens the binary black hole assumption (Xie et al 2008;Zhang et al 2009;Fu et al 2014). According to Castignani et al (2017), QPO analysis of hard X-ray data of PKS 1510-089 taken by RXTE-PCA from 1996 to 2011 reveals no obvious periodicity.…”

“…The variabilities are important features of Fermi blazars. The observed multi-wavelength variabilities of many sources show some kind of periodicity (Valtaoja et al 1985;Sillanpaa et al 1996;Li et al 2006;Xie et al 2008;Zhang et al 2009Zhang et al , 2017aZhang et al , 2017bZhang et al , 2017cSandrinelli et al 2016aSandrinelli et al , 2016b, e.g., PKS 2155-403 (Sandrinelli et al 2014(Sandrinelli et al , 2016aZhang et al 2017a), PG 1553+113 (Ackermann et al 2015a;Sobacchi et al 2017;Yan et al 2018;Zhou et al 2018). However, many of these claims are marginal, Most of them cannot be verified by new observations.…”
