Multi-hop mobile wireless networks have been proposed for a variety of applications where support for realtime multimedia services will be necessary. Support for these applications requires that the network is able to offer quality of service (QoS) appropriate for the latency and jitter bounds of the real-time application constraints. In this paper, we analyze the primary challenges of realizing QoS in mobile wireless networks with heterogeneous devices and propose a QoS framework for real-time traffic support. We address the problem in three ways: estimate the path quality for real-time flows, mitigate the impact of node heterogeneity on service performance, and reduce the impact of interfering non-realtime traffic. Specifically, our proposed QoS framework first utilizes a call setup protocol at the IP layer to discover paths for real-time flows, as well as to perform admission control by accurate service quality prediction. The underlying routing protocol also enables transparent path selection among heterogeneous nodes to provide stable paths for real-time traffic delivery. We then use a prioritized MAC protocol to provide priority access for flows with real-time constraints to reduce interference from unregulated non-real-time traffic. We foresee the utility of our proposed solution in heterogeneous mobile networks, such as campus or community-wide wireless networks. In these environments, resource-rich or fixed wireless routers may be leveraged to achieve better service quality when heterogeneity of node capability and movement is significant. Through experimental results, we demonstrate the utility and efficiency of our approach.

In industrial manufacturing, wireless network can be used in supply chain, retail stock management, electronic security keys, and theft prevention. A proactive and cost effective solution advancement is needed in the industrial manufacturing to monitor and control output performance at a manufacturing plant. It is with this reason that the manufacturers require an efficient communication and real time feedback to maximize uptime and improve productivity. Consistent with the future market of new technologies deployment this invention proposes a new complete solution method and architecture of embedded active radio frequency identification with counter system through wireless mesh sensor network platform and smart data processing adopted through web-based monitoring system for industrial automation. The ability of the developed system to function in machine-to-machine wireless communication and the adoption of web-based monitoring and data centralization contributes improvement in reducing errors with human intervention. In this paper we discuss the framework approach of a smart web-based monitoring and data acquisition system on wireless mesh sensor network platform. The evaluations and measurements have been conducted in real world environments which are conducted at selected industrial production factory.

SUMMARYNetwork passive monitoring is an important method in debugging and analyzing wireless sensor networks. The passive monitoring method for wireless sensor networks (WSN) has the following problems: monitoring traces are incomplete and contain only limited information because some packets may be misheard; how to infer implicit information about network protocol behavior and how to detect network events from incomplete traces are challenging issues in passive monitoring system. To resolve the above issues, we propose the use of time tuning in trace merging and a finite state machine for inferring missing packets, implicit information and network event detection. (1) In order to enhance the integrity of traces, we propose clock-adjusting strategies including clock fine-tuning and clock self-adjustment to solve clock drifting in trace merging. (2) For inference of missing packets and implicit information, we devise and implement a finite state machine to infer missing packets and packet receiving state for multi-hop network protocols. (3) For network event detection, we propose an XML-based description of event rule and network event visualization methods. These methods are implemented in PMSW (passive monitoring system for WSN). We verify the accuracy of merging and inference modules with monitoring traces in the Collect Tree Protocol sensor network. Experiments show that the finite state machine can infer 40-60% of missing packets and more than 90% of the receiving state of data packets, when the trace has more than 50% of the data packets captured in the network.
