The change in NT-pro-BNP and post-PTMC echocardiography parameters in patients with mitral stenosis. A pilot study

Abstract: Background. The change in the level of NT-pro-BNP (N-terminal-pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide) is now considered as a reflection of the hemodynamic alterations and its circulatory reductions reported early after successful PTMC (percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy). The present study aims to assess the change in the level of NT-pro BNP following PTMC in patients with mitral stenosis and also to determine the association between circulatory NT-pro-BNP reduction and post-PTMC echocardiography parameters… Show more

“…Therefore, in clinical practice, echocardiography and NT-pro BNP are often used in combination to diagnose diseases. The research shows that echocardiography combined with NT-pro BNP can be used to diagnose percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy [ 22 ], subclinical cardiotoxic [ 23 ], heart failure [ 24 ], and other diseases. Therefore, this study explored the effect of echocardiography combined with NT-pro BNP detection on DHF grading evaluation and prognosis.…”

“…The NT-pro BNP value can also explain the relationship between hemodynamic status and patient symptoms, so this parameter can be used to monitor the progression and clinical severity of RHD mitral stenosis [52]. The role of NT-pro BNP is also influenced by the management carried out; in the study of Safi et al (2017), a significant decrease in NT-pro BNP was found after the percutaneous mitral commissurotomy intervention in RHD mitral stenosis patients, and the decrease in value correlated with a decrease in the mean pressure gradient (MPG) [53].…”
