Abstract: Context. The intensities of the three widely observed radio-wavelength hyperfine structure (HFS) lines between the Λ-doublet components of the rotational ground state of CH are inconsistent with local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) and indicate ubiquitous population inversion.
