The cell line A-to-I RNA editing catalogue

Abstract: Adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing is a common post transcriptional modification. It has a critical role in protecting against false activation of innate immunity by endogenous double stranded RNAs and has been associated with various regulatory processes and diseases such as autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases as well as cancer. In addition, the endogenous A-to-I editing machinery has been recently harnessed for RNA engineering. The study of RNA editing in humans relies heavily on the usage of cell … Show more

“…The REDIportal resource also includes the Cell Line A-to-I Rna Editing (CLAIRE) database ( http://srv00.recas.ba.infn.it/atlas/claire.html ) ( 28 ), making our portal a reference point for the scientific community and all researchers involved in the RNA editing field.…”

“…In 2017, Picardi and colleagues developed REDIportal, which today is the most extensive collection of RNA editing in humans, including more than 4.5 million of A-to-I modification events detected across 55 body sites from thousands of RNA-seq experiments (Picardi et al 2017). Moreover, with its last update, REDIportal also includes ∼90,000 putative A-to-I editing events from the mouse brain transcriptome and incorporates CLAIRE, a searchable catalog of RNA editing levels across cell lines (Schaffer et al 2020). Although these three mentioned online resources are undoubtedly the most authoritative repositories of RNA editing events, none of them is strictly dedicated to miRNA editing.…”

“…A-to-I RNA editing, which is catalyzed by the adenosine deaminase, acts on RNA (ADAR) family of enzymes, is one of the most prevalent type of post-transcriptional modification in metazoans (25,26). In eukaryotes, this modification has been proved to play an important role in all aspects of regulatory processes such as splicing, microRNA targeting and processing and mRNA stability (27). The editing of nuclear protein-coding transcripts was long thought to be absent in bacterial species until recently that several cases were discovered (11,12).…”
