“…In contrast to several Japanese architectural studies regarding the planning and design of a school building since the 1950s, studies regarding the reuse of closed school buildings have only been published recently. Specifically, the following studies focused on the various utilization processes of abandoned schools in Japan: the impact of residents' involvement in the conversion process by Suzuki et al, 7 various issues in the conversion process by Kono et al, 8 the impact of the unique conversion process by Nose,9 factors that lead to school closure by Fujino et al, 10 and the effect of the period between school closure and conversion by Saio. 11 Additionally, these studies focused on space and function: the impact of regional attributes and architectural characteristics by Nozawa et al, 6 the evaluation of space function based on plan configuration and usage by Mishima et al, 12 the method of public reorganization planning to create a multifunctional regional hub facility by Yamagishi et al 13 Studies about space and function are on the rise because statistical surveys have become easier to conduct due to an increase in the number of closed school conversions to meet diverse needs.…”

“…析した研究 2) や、地域属性に着目し廃校の発生要因について地域情 報を含めた分析を行った研究 3,4) 等がある。また高度経済成長期以 降に過疎化が進行した農山漁村地域を多く抱える中国地方の小学校 の統廃合状況の県毎の報告 [5][6][7][8][9] と圏域全体の地域特性を整理した研 究 10) がある。一方、中学校は学年数が少なくかつ複式学級編成時の 免許外教科担任等の特有の問題を有すため、中学校は生徒数減少に よる統廃合が進められる場合が多く 注 6) 、 一部には小中一貫校として 再編される事例も増加傾向にあり、学校再編の方向性の検討や規模 の大きい廃校施設の有効活用等の課題を有している。中学校に関し ては中国地方を対象とした統廃合状況の県毎の報告 [11][12][13][14][15] と圏域全 体の特性を整理した研究 16) 等はあるが、全体的に研究蓄積は少ない。 廃校活用に関しては、廃校跡地の利用計画策定プロセスや統廃合と 廃校舎の利活用決定プロセスの関連を考察した研究 17) や、廃校活用 施設のグランドや体育館等を含めた施設全体の管理運用形態を整理 した研究 18) 、民間企業・団体による工場・店舗・宿泊施設等としての 活用事例報告 19) 、廃校後の利用形態と校舎の外部・内部・設備改修工 事の特徴を整理した研究等がある 20) 。 但し、学校所管自治体 注 7) This paper aims to explain the time and regional feature of primary and junior high school consolidation process, after regulating the relation of transition of the number of schools and consolidation based on the database about the number of students of primary and junior high school and closed schools in 1960-2016 in Chugoku region. By the typification of schools transition, they were classified into five at the increase type of primary and junior high schools(P⁺J⁺Type), sustainment type (PJType), the junior high school reduction type(PJ⁻Type), the primary school reduction type(P⁻JType), and the primary and junior high schools reduction type(P⁻J⁻Type).…”
