Abstract:Issue addressed Over the last three decades there has been an incremental investment in health promotion and prevention across Australia; yet, the Commonwealth Government and some state/territory governments have more recently instigated funding cuts in health promotion and prevention. This study offers insights into decision-making processes geared towards protecting the comprehensiveness of PHC service delivery for disadvantaged communities, ensuring financial viability, and surviving neoliberal economic policy whilst preserving communitarian values. These are relevant to an international audience, within a global context of rising health inequities, increasingly tight fiscal environments, and growing neoliberal influences on health policymaking and funding.

AHPA has also made multiple submissions to various government inquiries and consultation processes, often advocating for a stronger focus on SDH, particularly during periods of disinvestment in health promotion . This has included responses to Senate Community Affairs References Committee Inquiry mentioned above, a response to the abolition of the Australian National Preventive Health Agency, and multiple federal budget responses advocating for a great focus on health equity.…”
