The CAREGENE study: polymorphisms of the β1-adrenoceptor gene and aerobic power in coronary artery disease

Abstract: Ser49Gly and haplotype combinations of Ser49Gly and Gly389Arg of the beta(1)AR gene are associated with aerobic power, but not with the response to physical training in patients with CAD included in the CAREGENE study.

“…Stroke subtypes were determined using the TOAST criteria by a single stroke neurologist who was blinded to genotype. Patients with CHD (n = 926) were recruited from the CAREGENE study [17]. Control individuals (n = 1359) from the same population were recruited for the BSS as described [15] and amongst healthy individuals, spouses of patients suffering from neurological diseases (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ischemic stroke or multiple sclerosis), patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and from the Leuven University Gerontology Database [18].…”

“…In the CAREGENE study in patients with coronary artery disease, resting diastolic blood pressure was significantly lower in patients homozygous for Gly389 than in those with Arg389 allele [28]. However, in the patients with essential hypertension, there are no differences in resting blood pressure among Arg389Gly genotypes [29][30][31][32].…”
