The Cardiac Self-Efficacy Scale, a useful tool with potential to evaluate person-centred care

Abstract: The CSE Scale is a valid and reliable measure when evaluating self-efficacy in patients with ACS. It also seems to be a useful tool to promote person-centred care in clinical practice since it may offer useful guidance in the dialogue with the patient in the common creation of a personal health plan.

“…The Maintain Function Scale was used to measure self‐efficacy. The Swedish version of The Maintain Function Scale used here has been validated in persons with coronary diseases (Fors, Ulin, Cliffordson, Ekman, & Brink, ), and because The Maintain Function Scale has no connection to a specific disease, it can be used in different illness groups. The Maintain Function Scale is one dimension of the Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Scale developed by Sullivan, LaCroix, Russo, and Katon () for measuring self‐reported self‐efficacy in persons with coronary artery disease.…”

“…Swedish version of the CSE scale[27] (Sullivan et al, 1998) has been validated and is used as a tool, combined with in-depth dialog, to promote person-centered care in clinical practice[28] (Fors, Ulin, Cliffordson, Ekman, & Brink, 2014). It consists of 12 items, and responses are made on a 5-point Likert scale (0 = not at all, 1 = somewhat confident, 2 = moderately confident, 3 = very confident, 4 = completely confident).…”

“…Cardiac self-efficacy is indeed an exclusive cardiac scale about an individual's belief about his capabilities to do the activities related to CAD symptoms and challenges (1,14,17). Cardiac self-efficacy motivates the individuals to select a lifestyle about their cardiovascular disease via creating enthusiasm to adjust with such behaviors (14).…”
