The Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area survey: extended and remastered data release

S F Sánchez,
L Galbany,
C J Walcher
et al.

Abstract: This paper describes the extended data release (eDR) of the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area (CALIFA) survey. It comprises science-grade quality data for 895 galaxies obtained with the Potsdam Multi Aperture Spectograph/PPak instrument at the 3.5-m telescope at the Calar Alto Observatory along the last 12 yr, using the V500 setup [3700–7500 Å, 6 Å/full-width at half-maximum (FWHM)] and the CALIFA observing strategy. It includes galaxies of any morphological type, star formation stage, a wide range of stel… Show more

“…Readers wishing to reproduce the exact results of this paper should access the appropriate version of the database as stored in the Github version history. The EDGE database architecture can easily be adapted to other IFU surveys, particularly when Pipe3D has been used for spectral fitting, and will continue to be updated as Pipe3D itself undergoes further development (e.g., Sánchez et al 2023).…”

“…The CALIFA provided IFS observations for 600 galaxies in the nearby universe (Walcher et al 2014). Wavelength coverage was 370-750 nm with spectral resolution of 0.6 nm at full width at half maximum; a "remastered" data set has recently been released (Sánchez et al 2023). By taking an initial sample of galaxies from the SDSS and basing the selection of galaxies purely on visibility limits, the survey attempted to maintain the statistical properties of the SDSS sample while filling in a gap in IFS observations over a luminosity range of −19 M R −23.1 and a stellar mass between 10 9.7 M * /M e 10 11.4 .…”
