The C-wave in hereditary degenerations of the ocular fundus

Abstract: The c-wave of the human direct current ERG may give new insights about the involvement of the retinal pigment epithelium in hereditary degenerations. In our single-sweep recordings from 236 alert patients we saw reduced c-waves not only in vitelliforme macular degenerations but also in dominantly inherited drusen, Stargardt's disease, cone dystrophies, and x-linked retinoschisis. In achromatopsia the c-wave was close to normal. The relationship of the b- and c-wave, however, was altered only in Best's disease,… Show more

“…Moschos/Brouzas/Papantonis/Chatzis C-Wavc Study in Cone Dysfunction Syndrome nitis pigmentosa [9], Best's disease [9,10] and other diseases in which there is a diffuse RPE involvement. In all these cases, the C-wave amplitude is affected, whereas the implicit time is normal.…”

“…Hay numerosos ejemplos (Boissevain, 1992). A pesar de las órdenes del Concilio Vaticano II para reducir la pompa de la parroquia, los festejos patronales y las celebraciones de la Semana Santa en España, Italia y Malta han aumentado 1 . Las festividades fueron reintroducidas, a veces después de décadas de no-observancia.…”

“…Despite a flurry of articles on c-wave technique and usage in the 1970s, few if any laboratories are recording it regularly. The c-wave has been shown to be diminished in conditions that affect the EOG [30,31], but another problem (or perhaps another application) is that the c-wave may be affected by certain factors in disease that are incidental to RPE function. For example, since the c-wave depends on potassium changes in the subretinal space, even the slightest separation of the retina will severely affect the c-wave [32].…”
