The ‘burnout complex’ in surgical practice

Abstract: Burnout among healthcare professionals is a growing problem. Surgeons appear particularly vulnerable and the consequences can be significant for both the sufferer and those around them. In this article the author describes burnout, its manifestations, and how institutions and individuals can avoid it.
