The burden of 14 hr-HPV genotypes in women attending routine cervical cancer screening in 20 states of Mexico: a cross-sectional study

Abstract: In Mexico, HPV vaccines available immunize against genotypes 16/18 and 16/18/6/11; however, there is limited surveillance about carcinogenic subtypes in different states of the country that allow evaluating the effectiveness of vaccination and cervical cancer screening programs. Here, we report the regional and age-specific prevalence of 14 hr-HPV genotypes as well as their prevalence in abnormal cytology (from ASCUS to cervical cancer) among Mexican women which were undergoing from cervical cancer screening i… Show more

“…Within this study population, the hr-HPV detection rate by PCR assay was about 20%, which is comparable to the prevalence (24.7%) found in another study conducted in the Mexican population [ 26 ]. Clinical relevance caused by detecting vaginal HPV is not possible to conclude in our study set-up, in the absence of corresponding histology results.…”

“…In 2018, about 569,800 women were diagnosed with CC around the world, and 84% of them corresponded to underdeveloped countries [ 1 ]. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiological agent of CC, and high-risk HPV types 16 and 18 are the most frequently present in this pathology worthwhile and, also, in Mexico [ 2 , 3 ]. Late proteins L1 and L2 are structural components of the viral capsid.…”

“…There are 26 missing data. 2 AUC = 0.63 for the logistic regression model for anti-L1-16 antibodies of the studied population without considering the vaccinated group 3. The CIN1-2 group was used as a reference for the regression model.…”

“…Importantly, the two most up-todate previous studies based on large populations in Mexico have reported HR-HPV specific prevalence estimates between 11% and 13% 6,7 . A recent study determined the presence of HR-HPV in Mexican women from 20 different states, establishing prevalence of 24.78% of HR-HPV in Mexico, where types 16, 31, 51, and 18 were the most frequent, with 4.13%, 4.12%, 3.39%, and 1.7%, respectively 8 .…”
