“…For example, supportive social interactions (e.g. befriending) have been shown to have positive effects on chronic, retarded, psychiatric patients (Matson & Zeiss, 1979), while social support and access to a confidant have major effects on anxiety and depression (Brown, Andrews, Bifulco, Harris & Bridge, 1986;Stokes & McKirnan, 1989) and other health indices (Argyle, 1987;Ornstein & Swencionis, 1990). Given what we have said about the safety/safeness system, then the voluntary giving and receiving of investments should promote an openness to experiences, more complex and creative problem solving, a greater capacity to integrate information, and more prosocial behaviour.…”
