The Brera Multi-scale Wavelet ROSAT HRI source catalogue

Abstract: Abstract. We present the Brera Multi-scale Wavelet ROSAT HRI source catalogue (BMW-HRI) derived from all ROSAT HRI pointed observations with exposure times longer than 100 s available in the ROSAT public archives. The data were analyzed automatically using a wavelet detection algorithm suited to the detection and characterization of both point-like and extended sources. This algorithm is able to detect and disentangle sources in very crowded fields and/or in the presence of extended or bright sources. Images h… Show more

“…After this we demanded all radio-IR matching sources to have a counterpart in one of the X-ray catalogues available to us (RASS BSC and FSC, 1SWXRT and deep XRT GRB, 3XMM, XMM slew, Einstein IPC, IPC slew, WGACAT, Chandra, and BMW: Voges et al 1999Voges et al , 2000D'Elia et al 2013;Puccetti et al 2011;Rosen et al 2016;Saxton et al 2008;Harris et al 1993;Elvis et al 1992;White et al 2000;Evans et al 2010;Panzera et al 2003). Therefore we crossmatched the IR-radio subsample with each X-ray catalogue individually, taking into account their positional errors.…”

“…Our X-ray source list is drawn from the ROSHRITOTAL, 8 Bright and Faint Source, and Brera Multiscale Wavelet catalogs (Voges et al 1999;Panzera et al 2003). Observations consist of two separate pointings that cover most of the Spitzer field.…”

“…This catalog lists 299 detections, many of which are multiple detections of the same source. The Brera catalog consists of sources identified from a wavelet detection algorithm that accurately identifies point sources and extended sources (Panzera et al 2003). The Brera catalog contains 68 sources within the NGC 2232 field detected at a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of >4.2.…”

“…It is worth noting that s05 is the only X-ray source detected with ROSAT (Panzera et al 2003;Elsner et al 2008) inside the half-mass radius. Its optical counterpart is bluer than the main sequence, and it has a relatively high X-ray luminosity (L X ∼ 4 × 10 31 erg s −1 ).…”
