“…It has been well documented so far only for one species in each of three genera: the golden lion tamarin, Leontopithecus rosalia [2], and the cot ton-top tamarin, Saguinus oedipus [3,4], in captivity and the buffy-headed marmoset, Callithrix Jlaviceps [5], in the wild. There is an anecdotal report of its occurrence in cap tive Callimico [6], Our paper documents the occurrence in captivity of offering in the remaining marmoset genus Cebuella (the pygmy marmoset) and in an additional spe cies of lion tamarin, and also confirms its occurrence in Callimico.…”

“…In our colony infants are carried by the mother for about three weeks, after which the father begins to carry. Heinemann (1970) and Heltne et al (1973) report that infants are first carried by their fathers during the third week; Pook (1978) gave an average age of 23 days; Arentsen (1977) gave 25 and 30 days. We have observed a father carry an infant as young as 18 days but some other dd are characteristically reluctant and do not carry infants until the fifth week.…”

“…Previous studies have shown that C. goeldii mothers, unlike other callitrichids, delay transferring infants to other group members (Pook 1977;Carroll 1982;Jurke et al 1994). Captive C. goeldii mothers transfer infants to fathers during week 3 (Beck et al 1982;Heinemann 1970;Heltne et al 1973;Schradin and Anzenberger 2003) or early in week 4 (Pook 1977) but transfer only 11-15 days after birth in the wild (Masataka 1981;Porter 2000). In contrast, C. jacchus mothers often allow fathers to transport infants the day following birth (Pook 1977;Tardif et al 1993).…”
