The brain-computer interface researcher’s questionnaire: from research to application

Abstract: Over the last decades, the brain-computer interface (BCI) research field has seen steep progress and now recognizes several types of applications, each with its own target population. Despite this evolution, BCIs seem to remain a research application, and are hardly used in daily life at home, work or in the clinic. Therefore, as a field, we need to take the next step and make sure that we develop BCIs that can, and will, be used outside the laboratory. To this purpose, BCI researchers worldwide were approache… Show more

“…To obtain a clear picture of the barriers preventing the commercialization of BCI interfaces, Vansteensel et al [163] sent out a questionnaire to over 3500 BCI researchers worldwide, 95% of which worked in BCIs related to EEG or electromyography (EMG) technologies. Overall, the researchers surveyed were confident that BCIs, particularly those to replace or enhance brain functionality, could be commercialized and were realizable within the next 5 to 10 years.…”

“…Psychological weakness is a typical outcome of ABI [5][4] [1], with youngsters encountering challenges with memory, consideration, fixation, official brokenness and a potential decrease in scholarly capacity after some time [6] [7]. Past examinations have detailed that it is frequently official control over psychological procedures, as opposed to particular procedures themselves (e.g.…”
