The biochemical significances of the proximate, mineral and phytochemical composition of selected vegetables from Pakistan

Abstract: Current study was designed to focus on the proximate, phytochemical and nutrient composition in addition to antioxidant properties of five selected vegetables viz Ipomoea batatas, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Daucus carota, Solanum Melongena and Brassica rapa rapa that are locally available and readily consumed in Pakistan. Nutritional analysis revealed that all the edibles were rich sources of crude protein, carbohydrate, fat and dietary fiber. Micro and macro minerals analysis also exhibited the significant pr… Show more

“…Each sample was analyzed using less than 10 mg of powder (Atta et al, 2017). Thermogravimetric spectra were measured from room temperature to 750 °C using a TG20 thermal gravimetric analyzer (209-F1 TG, Netzsch, Germany) and a carrier gas (N 2 ) velocity of 40 mL/min.…”

“…In modern medical research, the pathogenesis of cerebral ischemia includes energy metabolism disorders, platelet aggregation, vasoconstriction and microcirculation disorders, excitatory amino acid toxicity and so on, and the drugs clinically used for the preventing and treating cerebral ischemia are mainly antiplatelet drugs aspirin, ticlopidine and other drugs. Most cerebral ischemia patients need a long time of medication, but the side effect from long-term medication, drug prices, limitations of treatment course will affect the treatment of the disease (Atta et al, 2017, Halim et al, 2017). Chinese medicine believes that the occurrence of ischemic stroke relates with the Qi stagnation, Qi deficiency, phlegm turbidity, blood stasis, Yin deficiency, heat or Fire and other factors, so, clinically, some therapeutic principles like “tonifying Qi and reinforcing deficiency”, “activating blood and resolving stasis”, “clearing heat and expelling toxin” and others are adopted to prevent cerebral ischemic diseases.…”

“…Pathological changes of thymus in each group mice: In the blank group, the lobuli thymi of mice was sharply demarcated, the boundary of cortex of thymus and medullary substance was clear (Atta et al, 2017, Ishaq and Jafri, 2017). Cortex of thymus was thicker, lymphocyte was concentrated (Fig.…”
