ResumoEste trabalho apresenta análises geomorfológicas da Cadeia Vitória-Trindade, ES, e das áreas adjacentes por meio de batimetria predita com base no banco de dados do TOPO versão 14.1, que foi disponibilizado em 2011. A referida cadeia de montes submarinos tem comprimento aproximado de 950km e direção geral leste-oeste ao longo da latitude S20°30'. É constituída aproximadamente por 30 montes submarinos de forma cônica, que são reconhecidos morfologicamente como edifícios vulcânicos. Os vulcões com altura relativa maior do que 2500m têm confi guração geográfi ca altamente linear com a infl exão na parte central. O trecho oriental tem direção N85°E e o trecho ocidental, N77°W. Os montes submarinos são caracterizados morfologicamente por elevação no sopé, edifício vulcânico principal e topo planar. A elevação no sopé tem altura aproximada de 1000m, os edifícios vulcânicos principais possuem altura variando de 3000m a 5000m e, o topo planar é em torno de 10 km de diâmetro e o diâmetro da base é cerca de 30km. De leste para oeste, a frequência dos montes submarinos aumenta e a elevação no sopé torna-se mais expressiva, indicando que o magmatismo e tectonismo associados aumentam na sua intensidade ao oeste. Na mesma direção, as morfologias de deslizamento fi cam maiores e mais frequentes, sugerindo que os vulcões tornam-se mais antigos nesta direção. Os topos planares dos montes submarinos têm profundidade constante em torno de 50m. A subsidência do assoalho oceânico, que é comum em cadeias de hot-spot, não é observada. Micropalentological studies of limestones and isotopic-geochronological determinations of the age of zircons found in vulcanites dredged from the region of the northern chain of the group of Bahia sea mounts in the 28th cruise of the R/V Akademik Vavilov were undertaken. The recognized age difference of the northern chain of the Bahia seamounts of northwestern strike from 75 to 84 Ma from the southeast to the northwest indicates the fact that this chain was formed as a result of hot spot activity. The age of vulcanites is in good correlation with the Maastricht and Coniacian-Santonian age of limestones occurring on the slopes of the seamounts. The similarity of the seamounts age and the age of the oceanic bottom indicates the fact that the hot spot was localized near the spreading axial zone of the MAR. Along the strike of the chain, the centers of volcanic activity are correlated to the zones of transform faults, which are important in the hot spot activation. The formed chain is a weak zone in the lithosphere and the focus of younger stages of volcanic activity; there were at least two of stages within the northern chain of the Bahia seamounts, and these occurred about 75 and 59 Ma ago.
