The Basic Income Guarantee: A General Equilibrium Evaluation

Abstract: The potential economic effects of implementing a Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) in the United States are examined using a small-scale computable general equilibrium model in which labor and saving are the fundamental household decision variables. The social choice variables consist of BIG (termed herein "guaranteed minimum consumption") and public good expenditure. Assuming the model's benchmark values for the social choice variables are a reasonable approximation to the current situation, solution for the optim… Show more

“…The analysis is based on a static neoclassical labor supply model considering individual decision making of a representative agent under perfect certainty. Individual decision making is illustrated utilizing a Cobb-Douglas utility function, and savings are not discussed for reasons of simplicity (Gilroy et al, 2013: 51; Yunker, 2013: 206–207). The basic income amount is exogenous, as is the tax rate.…”

“…A palavra "trabalho" provém do latim tripalium, que significa castigo. Tripálio (do latim tardio "tri" (três) e "palus" (pau) -literalmente, "três paus") é um instrumento (Birnbaum, 2012;FitzRoy & Jin, 2018;Huws, 2017;Pereira, 2017aPereira, , 2017bWiderquist, 2001;Yunker, 2013).…”
