The BAO+BBN take on the Hubble tension

Abstract: Many attempts to solve the Hubble tension with extended cosmological models combine an enhanced relic radiation density, acting at the level of background cosmology, with new physical ingredients affecting the evolution of cosmological perturbations. Several authors have pointed out the ability of combined Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) data to probe the background cosmological history independently of both CMB maps and supernovae data. Using state-of-the-art assumptions o… Show more

“…It is worth while mentioning that the baryon acoustic oscillation probe based on galaxy surveys combined with big bang nucleosynthesis data, gives an independent estimate of H0 = 68.3 +1.1 −1.2 km s −1 Mpc −1 (Schöneberg, Lesgourgue & Hooper 2019) which is close to the Planck-derived H0 value. These are important results, but discussing them goes beyond the scope of this paper.…”

“…The left panel of Fig. 1 [54,55]. Interesting to note that the H 0 − m plane, from θ B AO data, also tends to be positively correlated, but generating high H 0 values.…”

“…Such model would fully resolve the Hubble tension, while having interesting consequences for laboratory experiments. Unfortunately, the simplest realization of this model is strongly constrained 24 Alternatively, it is possible to measure rs(z drag ) by combining BAO and the value of w b obtained from BBN [765,766,767]. 25 These bounds were derive assuming massless products.…”
