The Band Spectrum of N2+

Abstract: Twenty-five bands of the First Negative System, B 2Σu+ - X 2Σg+, of the Nitrogen Molecule Ion N2+ have been analysed or reanalysed. The previous analysis of the (7, 10) band is found to be incorrect. Molecular constants for the X 2Σg+, A 2Πu, B 2Σu+ and C 2Σu+ states obtained with the term value approach from seventy-one bands are presented.

“…Being not evidenced in the studies related to the Meinel band system, the characterization of these v A levels is obviously limited by the small number of observed lines. The accuracy of the constants we have obtained is one order of magnitude better than previous results from the literature (13,15). This is mainly due to the observation of numerous extra -lines.…”

“…The rotational analysis was performed by taking advantage of the results obtained in the visible range (13)(14)(15). In particular we have rebuilt all the structure of the ultraviolet bands by using the spectral terms of the electronic ground state calculated with the Dunham coefficients derived by Harada et al (27).…”

“…N 2 is featured by a weak band around 337 nm and 313 nm due to C 3 Π→B 3 Π (0, 0) and (0, 1) transitions [21]. transitions in the 330-435 nm range [22]. The most intense peak is at 391 nm (0, 0) but the other systems are resolvable through their local maxima at 357 nm (1,0) and 428 nm (0,1).…”
