The association between the serum level of vitamin D and ischemic heart disease: a study from Jordan

Abstract: BackgroundDecreased levels of vitamin D were associated with increased risk of multiple diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. However, there seem to be some discrepancies among the results obtained from different studies. The aim of the present study was to explore the importance of having sufficient serum levels of vitamin D in reducing the incidence and the progression of coronary artery stenosis and ischemic heart disease (IHD).MethodsSerum levels of vitamin D were measured using radioimmunoassay in … Show more

“…13 Also, Jarrah et al did not find any association between vitamin D deficiency and the incidence or the reoccurrence of coronary artery stenosis. 14 So, the relationship between vitamin D status and CAD is still a matter of ongoing debate, and this merits further investigation. In Bangladesh, both hypovitaminosis D and CAD are common, and an association may exist between these two public health problems, i.e., hypovitaminosis D and CAD.…”
