The association between systemic immune-inflammation index and rheumatoid arthritis: evidence from NHANES 1999–2018

Abstract: Purpose We aimed to explore the relationship between the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using NHANES from 1999 to 2018. Methods We collected data from the NHANES database from 1999 to 2018. The SII is calculated from the counts of lymphocytes (LC), neutrophils (NC), and platelets (PC). The RA patients were derived from questionnaire data. We used weighted multivariate regression analysis and subgroup analysis… Show more

“…Besides, significant differences in race, monocyte, and WBC were observed in 2 psoriasis groups as well as 4 SII groups. Liu et al [22] revealed that SII was positively related to rheumatoid arthritis risk. Additionally, SII served as a reliable inflammatory marker for predicting the osteoporosis risk or low bone mineral density among postmenopausal women.…”

“…34 Other studies also reported the potential role of SII in cardiocerebral vascular disease. [35][36][37] A higher SII has also been associated with an increased risk of POCD, 38 rheumatoid arthritis, 39 and postoperative pulmonary complications. 40 The PLT, neutrophil, and LYMPHs could all be examined routinely and easily in patients undergoing selective and emergency procedures, making the marker available to doctors in our daily practice.…”

“…Participants were classified based on their BMI as underweight and normal weight (BMI < 25 kg/m 2 ), overweight (BMI = 25-30 kg/m 2 ) and obese (BMI > 30.0 kg/m 2 ) (Hastie et al, 2010). PIR was divided into three levels, PIR < 1.3 as low household income, PIR 1.3-3.5 as medium household income and PIR > 3.5 as high household income (Liu et al, 2023). Similarly, education levels were divided into three categories: less than high school level, high school level and more than high school level.…”
