PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the impact of organizational cynicism (OCyn) on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among bank employees with a focus on the role of work alienation (WA) as a potential mediator.Design/methodology/approachUsing standardized questionnaire, data were collected from 381 employees working in the banking sector of Punjab, a northern state of India. Statistical techniques such as hierarchical multiple regression and confirmatory factor analysis along with PROCESS macro were used for data analysis.FindingsResults reveal that OCyn has a significant negative effect on OCB. Further, WA is found to be significantly partially mediating the relationship between the aforementioned constructs.Research limitations/implicationsThis study pertains to a single sector i.e., banking sector restricting the generalizability to other industrial and vocational settings. Further, it may be difficult to draw any causal inferences as the research design adopted for this study is cross-sectional in nature.Practical implicationsIn order to promote OCBs among bank employees, the formation of negative workplace attitudes such as OCyn and WA needs to be regulated. This can be achieved through improving communications network, encouraging participative decision-making activities, conducting psychological counseling and stress management training sessions.Originality/valueThis study is one of the scarce empirical research works that have substantiated the direct impact along with the indirect impact of OCyn (through work alienation) on OCB among bank employees.

The standoff between management and the young doctor's organization (YDA) caused by periodic strikes has had major consequences for patients who do not receive medical attention when needed. This includes the stoppage of treatment in public hospital emergencies, which frequently results in patient deaths, reflecting a negative image of public hospitals. Analysis of the procedural imbalance and relationships between several organizational environment, culture, cynicism, citizenship behavior, and job embeddedness criteria in public-sector hospitals is the goal of this study. However, information gathered from the young doctors at Lahore's Public Sector Health Hospitals was necessary for this study to be successful. To compute the results, several statistical procedures were used, including factor analysis, regression, correlation, and reliability analysis. To examine the findings, information was gathered from 146 responders, who were young physicians. This study found that whereas JE mediates the association between organizational climate, cynicism, culture, and citizenship behavior among young doctors in Lahore's public sector hospitals, organizational climate has a considerable impact on OCB while organizational cynicism and culture have a small impact.

<p>The prevalence of corporate transgressions in Indonesia have brought the moral standards of business leaders into public domain. In light of these phenomena, an investigation into whether prospective business leaders of the country are predisposed to moral values is crucial. The purpose of this research was to ascertain the attitudes of the Indonesian future business leaders towards the existence of codes of ethics in business. In particular, the research examined whether the religious orientation of these future leaders influenced the attitudes. A test was also assigned to scrutinize whether the degree of their social cynicism moderated that possible causal relationship. A survey was used as the primary method to collect the data. The sample involved first-year students from a business school at a private university in Indonesia. A total of 111 students involved in the survey. A majority of the students Results of the research showed majority of the respondents were generally supportive shown to have positive attitudes towards codes of ethics. The intrinsic religious orientation of the students also had a positive impact on the attitudes. This positive relationship, however, was mitigated by their negative views of people and social institutions. Managerial implications of the research findings are discussed and the directions of future similar research are outlined. </p>
