“…The greater difference between test and control lesions, however, occurred in the impedance values compared with that in the morphometric measurements, thereby confirming that SAP P 11 -4 acts predominantly by regenerating the mineral structure of the enamel of the lesion body and not just the surface 23,24 . Moreover, at the last study visit at day 180, the impedance values for test lesions indicated regression of caries into very outer enamel, whereas the impedance values for the control lesions indicated still caries throughout the whole enamel layer 31,33 , which agrees with previous data that fluoride (in the present study as fluoride-based professional prophylaxis paste and home care toothpaste) only acts in the top 30-50 µm of the enamel surface 13,14,34 .…”

“…Orthodontic WSL are of particular interest for clinical investigations of caries in this respect, as they are assumed to be active until debonding of the brackets, whereupon they become inactive 4,8 and good accessible for several measurement methods 16,29 .Therefore, the present split-mouth study investigated the effect of SAP P 11 -4 in addition to the conventional treatment of early carious lesions after debonding of orthodontic brackets. The primary endpoint was the impedance measurement [29][30][31] . Moreover, a semi-automated approach to measure the WSL size was used as done in other clinical studies on SAP P 11 -4 25-27 .…”

“…International Caries Detection and Assessment System -ICDAS is such a system. Many authors emphasize the appropriateness of this method in the diagnosis of dental caries: the stage and extent of the lesions, as well as high repeatability of the results obtained by ICDAS [1,4,16]. Ari T and Ari N., [1] note the high importance of LED lighting and magnification in improving the accuracy of diagnosis when assessing the tooth surface using the ICDAS index.…”

“…Many authors showed the impact on the differences in the results of studies of the so-called cut-off point in a clinical and visual method using ICDAS. According to them, in a study conducted in vitro on permanent extracted teeth, the increase in cut-off point from 2 to 3 reduces the sensitivity of the method, while at the same time increases its specificity [4,16].…”
