In a city, the urban landscape is a very important part. If foreign tourists come, the urban landscape will be their first impression of the city. Therefore, the planning and design of the urban landscape is very important. There are certain defects in the traditional urban landscape, such as not beautiful enough, poor environmental quality and so on. In order to better guide the urban landscape planning and design, this article uses the multi-objective optimization algorithm, taking a certain district of a city as an example, based on the ArcGIS platform, simulates the landscape planning of the district, and evaluates the planning scheme combined with the sensitivity analysis method. The results show that the reasonable layout of landscape planning in this area can improve the quality of urban environment, improve the quality of life of residents, increase employment opportunities, increase fiscal revenue, and achieve the purpose of optimizing urban functions and rationally allocating urban resources. The experimental results show that the urban landscape designed by applying the multi-objective optimization algorithm has the highest praise rate of 89.6% in terms of quality of life.

Memorials as a part of the political symbolic space in Prague

Memorials, as pieces of art in public space, have not only an aesthetic function, but also a commemorative, representative, and ideological one. They materialize social discourse and national values that change over time. The social relationship to memorials shapes their symbolism, which is a part of the political symbolic space. The aim of the article is to determine how memorials are involved in this symbolic space (how memorials from various eras are distributed in Prague, which localities might have symbolic connotations, and how this symbolism can be interpreted). Free-standing memorials in the public space of Greater Prague have been included in the research, demonstrating different spatial patterns and symbolism. While the most dominant memorials, dedicated to figures associated with the Czech National Revival, are concentrated in the city center, war memorials, the most common type of memorial, are scattered evenly throughout the city. The reinterpretation of historical events and memorials after the fall of Communism has created conflicting sites of memory, which relate to current Czech-Russian relations and the aftermath of the historical Czech-German national conflict.

Acquiescence of UNESCO Cultural Heritage and Acoustic Environments: Assessment of Hanlar District

Several natural and historical areas around the world are listed as UNESCO Cultural Heritage Sites. Hanlar District, located in Bursa, is the fourth biggest city in Turkey, its history includes the Ottoman, Roman, and Byzantine Empires, and it is an area with unique environmental features that represent various historical periods. Scholars at institutions worldwide have already recognized that such an environment has unique characteristics, and so local authorities should preserve the soundscape of the district as the sounds reflect the urban identity of the city. This study aims to evaluate the sounds of this unique district and recommends ways to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the site in terms of its sounds. After collecting more than seven hundred pieces of data on sound pressure levels (SPLs) at twenty-one locations, the SPLs were statistically analyzed (an ANOVA was used for different time intervals, and a t-test was used for different days). Noon and weekend measurements varied among the sites, and these variations were statistically significant. Furthermore, the SPLs were above the WHO’s suggested levels. The study findings show the importance of reducing sounds to create better acoustic environments. The local government should include all stakeholders, including residents, employees, and urban designers, in participatory approaches and action plans to preserve the sounds of cultural heritage sites.
