Background Open gingival embrasures form complex aesthetic and functional problems. This clinical trial assessed the bioclear matrix using injection molding technique against conventional celluloid matrix technique in management of black triangle. Methods A total of 26 participants were randomly divided into two groups (13 participants each) according to the technique used. In group (A) celluloid conventional matrix method was used, while in group (B) bioclear matrix with injection molding technique was used. The different outcomes (Esthetic evaluation, marginal integrity and patient satisfaction) were evaluated following the FDI criteria by two blinded examiners. The evaluation was done at (T0) (immediate after restoration); (T6) after 6 months; and (T12) after 12 months. Statistical analysis was done as categorical and ordinal data were presented as frequency and percentage values. Categorical data were compared using fisher’s exact test. Intergroup comparisons for ordinal data were analyzed utilizing the Mann–Whitney U test, while intragroup comparisons were analyzed using Friedman’s test followed by the Nemenyi post hoc test. The significance level was set at p ≤ 0.05 within all tests. Results Regarding radiographic marginal integrity and marginal adaptation, the bioclear matrix group revealed superior results when compared to celluloid matrix group with a significant difference between both groups at all intervals (p < 0.05); however no significant difference was detected at different intervals. While for proximal anatomical form and esthetic anatomical form, as well as phonetics and food impaction, all cases in both groups were successful with no statistical significant difference between groups. For the periodontal response, there was no significant difference between groups. However, there was a significant difference between scores measured at different intervals, with T0 being significantly different from other intervals (p < 0.001). Marginal staining revealed that there was no significant difference between groups. While, a significant difference between scores measured at different intervals. Conclusions The restorative management of the black triangle with both protocols was able to deliver superior aesthetic and good marginal adaptation; suitable biological properties; with adequate survival time. Both techniques were almost equally successful, however they are depending on the operator skills. Trial registration The clinical trial was registered in the (www.clinicaltrials.gov/) database in 23/07/2020; with the unique identification number NCT04482790.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rotation frequency (rpm) of different polishing discs on the surface roughness of a nanohybrid resin composite material. 126 specimens were prepared in metal molds of 10 mm diameter and 2 mm depth using a nanohybrid resin composite material. The prepared specimens were kept in distilled water for 24 hours. Polishing treatments at 5k, 10k, 15k, and 20k rpm were applied to the nanohybrid resin composite material by grouping different brand polishing discs: Sof-Lex Contouring and Polishing Discs (3M Espe, USA) (3M Group), Optidisc (Kerr Corporation, USA) (Kerr Group), Super-Snap Rainbow Technique Kit (Shofu Dental, Japan) (Shofu Group), Finishing Disc (Bisco Dental, USA) (Bisco Group). The surface roughness was evaluated at three different points by atomic force microscopy for all specimens and scanning electron microscopy was used for visual assessment. Data were evaluated by Two Way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD Test. The mean surface roughness (Ra, μm) of all prepared samples showed significant differences (α = 0.05). According to Two-Way ANOVA, there is a statistically significant relationship between the rpm values and the discs. The 3M group showed the highest roughness value at all rpm speeds. Shofu group at 15k, 20k rpm, Bisco group at 10k, 15k, 20k rpm, the Kerr group at 15k, 20k rpm showed the lowest roughness value and had roughness close to the surfaces finished with a mylar strip. The smoothest surfaces were obtained at 15k rpm, even though polishing discs from different brands were used. It was also observed that 5k and 20k rpm polishing speeds can increase the surface roughness of the nanohybrid resin composite material.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, polisaj teknikleri ve renklendirici ajanların farklı tekniklerle üretilen geçici materyallerin renk stabilitelerine etkisinin araştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Disk şeklinde örnekler üç farklı teknikle (Otopolimerize, CAD/CAM ve 3 boyutlu (3B) baskı) 10x2 mm boyutlarında hazırlandı (N=360). Her bir teknikle hazırlanan örnekler uygulanacak polisaj işlemine göre 4 gruba ayrıldı (n=30): (1) Jumbo zımpara taşı ile polisaj (kontrol), (2) Keçikılı fırça ve elmas içerikli polisaj pastası ile polisaj, (3) Soflex polisaj sistemi, (4) Optragloss polisaj sistemi. İlk renk değerleri ölçüldükten sonra örnekler renklendirici ajana göre (distile su, kahve, kırmızı şarap) 3 gruba ayrıldı (n=10). Altı gün sonra örneklerin ikinci renk ölçümleri yapıldı ve ∆E00 (renk değişimi) değerleri hesaplandı. Veriler üç yönlü Robust yöntemi ile analiz edildi. Normal dağılım göstermeyen renk değişim değerlerinin materyal, polisaj işlemi ve renklendirme ajanlarına göre çoklu karşılaştırmalarında Bonferroni düzeltmeli Lincon testi kullanıldı (p< 0.05). Bulgular: CAD/CAM tekniği ile üretilen materyaller en düşük ΔE00 değerlerini, 3B baskı tekniği ile üretilen materyaller en yüksek ΔE00 değerlerini göstermiştir. Keçikılı fırça ile yapılan polisajlama işlemi en yüksek ΔE00 değerlerini 2 aşamalı elmas içeren lastiklerle yapılan polisaj işlemi en düşük ΔE00 değerlerini göstermiştir. Yine kırmızı şarap en yüksek ΔE00 değerlerini gösterirken, distile su en düşük ΔE00 değerlerini göstermiştir. Sonuç: Uzun dönem kullanılması planlanan sabit geçici restorasyonların renk stabilitesi hem materyal ve uygulanan yüzey polisaj işleminden hem de renklendirici ajandan etkilenmektedir.
