“…PTE assessment approaches that use more detailed measurements and thus potentially provide greater precision and consistency may be particularly important for research on certain populations of children where the link between PTE and functioning is not always straightforward. One such population is preschool-age children, which is an age range marked by dynamic and intricate development across multiple domains of functioning, such as the rapidly changing areas of cognitive, social, and motor skills, all of which tend to negatively influenced by exposure to PTE (e.g., Campbell et al, 2016; Gilbert et al, 2013). Obtaining more information about exposure to PTE, compared to minimal information or using a single cumulative score, may help better determine why some young children experience maladjustment and others do not, as well as possibly explain mixed findings on such relations.…”
