To evaluate the frequency of traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) use, the variety of applications, the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients with neuropathic pain, and their knowledge and attitudes about TCM practices Material and Methods: A total of 250 patients with neuropathic pain were included in this, cross-sectional study. The patients were divided into two groups: medication only (group 1, n=119) and medication with TCM practices (group 2, n=131). Questionnaires were completed by the patients in face-to-face interviews by a blinded physician. Results:The mean age of the patients in group 2 (50.68±16.39) was found to be higher than in group 1 (p=0.043). In terms of chronic diseases, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and other diseases were found to be more common in group 2 than in group 1 (p<0.05). The number of patients with duration of neuropathic pain more than 5 years, the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) pain scale and the Neuropathic Pain 4 (DN4) scale scores were found to be higher in group 2 than in group 1 (p<0.05). At least one TCM is known by %78.6 of group 2 and 61.3% of group 1 (p=0.003). The three most commonly used TCM practice in group 2 were wet cupping/cupping therapy (24%), leeches (22.8%), and acupuncture (11.6%). Conclusion: It was determined that the mean age of patients who used medication with TCM practices together for the treatment of neuropathic pain was higher, neuropathic pain severity was higher, and neuropathic pain duration was longer than patients who used medication only for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

Aim: Traditional and complementary medicine applications are widely used worldwide. These methods have been applied by physicians only for different reasons ranging from curing diseases to cosmetic use. In this study, it is aimed to determine the extent to which the traditional and complementary applications presented in the institutions are published on the corporate websites and the status of the publication of the information on these services on the corporate websites. Methods: In the research 984 units and institution web sites that applied traditional and complementary methods licensed by the Ministry of Health were examined by the content analysis method. The web sites were evaluated between November 5 and December 27, 2019 within the framework of the criteria determined after the literature review. Results: As a result of the research, it was seen that traditional and complementary units are concentrated in Marmara Region and 353 traditional and complementary units do not have web sites. While 57.4% of the hospitals and medical centers where traditional and complementary units are located have information on traditional and complementary methods applied in the institution, 85.8% do not have information about the physician providing traditional and complimentary services. While 72.2% of the practices and polyclinics have information on the application of traditional and complementary methods on the website, online appointments cannot be made from 83.3%. Conclusion: As a result, it was found that the institutions providing traditional and complimentary services do not provide sufficient information on their websites. Suggestions include standardizing the information that should be available on the websites, having online appointment tabs, and having a foreign language option.

Propolis bal arıları tarafından çam, okaliptüs, akçaağaç, kavak, kestane, erik gibi ağaçların tomurcuk, yaprak ya da kabuk çatlaklarından toplanan bitki reçinelerinin, mum, arıların çeşitli salgıları ve kısmen polen ile karıştırılmasıyla üretilen ve kovanda çeşitli amaçlarla kullanılan bir arı ürünüdür. Yapısında bulunan bileşenler propolise antimikrobiyal, antitümoral, antifungal, antiseptik özellikler kazandırmıştır. Bu nedenle çok eski çağlardan beri yaraların iyileştirilmesi, diş çürüklerinin tedavisi ya da dezenfeksiyon amacıyla kullanılmaktadır. Günümüzde de yapılan çalışmalar ile immün sistemi desteklediği belirlenen propolisin kullanımı daha çok yaygınlaşmıştır. Propolis kullanılarak üretilen birçok ürünün olması kullanılabilirliğini de kolaylaştırmıştır. Son yıllarda üretilen propolis katkılı krem, losyon, diş macunu gibi ürünler çeşitli hastalıkların tedavisinde olumlu yönde katkı sağlamaktadır. Özellikle son yıllarda her altı kişiden birinin ölümüne sebep olan kanserin tedavisi ve iyileştirilmesinde propolisin kullanımı dikkat çekmiş ve bu konuda birçok araştırma yapılmıştır. Yaraların iyileştirilmesi, dermatolojik sorunların giderilmesi, ağız ve diş sağlığının korunması gibi farklı alanlarda da propolisten faydalanılmaktadır. Bu derlemede propolisin iyileştirici ve önleyici etkilerininden bahsedilmiştir.
