Regionalism has been an important force in international relations since 1945. The aim of this article is to make an assessment of one of the major regional organisations from the Asia Pacific, the ASEAN, or Association of South East Asian Nations. The article attempts to give readers an overview of the problems and prospects of the ASEAN. Although the ASEAN has been successful to a large extent as a regional body, regionalism in South East Asia has been considerably undermined by a number of factors since its creation in 1967. However, in the final analysis, it has been argued that with increasing democratising tendencies in the region and with increasing economic liberalisation, the ASEAN seems to have a bright future.

INTISARIPerdagangan Bebas adalah tahap penting dalam meningkatkan ekspor dan impor negara. Salah satu bentuk perdagangan bebas adalah kawasan perdagangan bebas ASEAN yang didirikan pada tahun 1992 dan memiliki 10 negara anggota. Sebaliknya, ada penelitian sebelumnya yang menyatakan perdagangan bebas juga dapat berdampak negatif pada perdagangan antar negara. Studi ini mencoba menganalisis hubungan AFTA terhadap ekspor dan impor negara-negara anggotanya menggunakan data dari Bank Dunia periode 1985 hingga 2015. Analisis ini menggunakan efek acak dan model panel dinamis. Model panel dinamis digunakan untuk menentukan hubungan jangka pendek dan jangka panjang AFTA pada ekspor dan impor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat efek positif dan signifikan AFTA terhadap ekspor dan impor negara-negara anggota ASEAN. Hasil yang diperoleh pada efek jangka panjang menunjukkan pengaruh yang lebih besar antara AFTA dengan ekspor dan impor negara-negara anggota ASEAN. 2019 FIA UB. All rights reserved.
