The Arterial Supply of the Distal Part of the Pancreas

Abstract: The pancreatic surgery field has evolved greatly over the previous years. Nevertheless, the vascularization of the pancreas remains a difficult subject and requires further attention. The study was conducted using macroscopical dissection and corrosion cast methods. The total number of organ blocks was 72 (50 for dissection and 22 for corrosion cast). Based on the data obtained by dissection, we can distinguish three major types of vascularization of the distal pancreas. In type one, the pancreas was vasculari… Show more

“…Warshaw’s technique (WT) is recommended for these cases because dissection of splenic vessels out of the pancreatic body may wreck the integrity of the margins around the cancer[ 46 ]. Pancreatic branches originating from the distal SA and/or inferior branch of SA could provide the arterial supply to the pancreatic stump[ 47 ]. Left gastroepiploic and short gastric veins are crucial to venous return of the spleen and pancreatic remnant.…”

“…The TPA generally branches from the dorsal pancreatic artery, and runs behind the pancreas [ 6 , 7 ]. Therefore, aneurysm rupture at the TPA causes bleeding in the retroperitoneum.…”

“…The TPA generally branches from the dorsal pancreatic artery, which originates from the splenic artery, the common hepatic artery, the SMA, and the celiac artery, or directly from the splenic or SMA [ 5 – 8 ]. Only approximately 2.5% of the TPA directly branches from the SMA and supplies blood to the underside of the pancreas [ 6 , 9 ]. We report a case of a ruptured aneurysm of the TPA originating from the SMA that required urgent surgical treatment.…”

“…Однако, несмотря на то, что тема кровоснабжения ПЖ является достаточно хорошо изученным вопросом, топография артериальных сосудов перешейка ПЖ раскрыта в настоящее время в весьма малом объеме. Так, лишь ряд авторов упоминают про перипанкреатическую артерию, проходящую по перешейку поджелудочной железы [3,8] [7].…”
