“…Because detection is a function of line strength, we must know the percentage of galaxies with Hα, [O III], and [O II] emission as a function of equivalent width. Gregory et al (2000) measured 350 galaxies in the Arizona-New Mexico Spectroscopic Survey of Galaxies (ANM) specifically to get spectral emission and absorption characteristics for a complete sample of galaxies away from rich clusters. Their results for the percentage of galaxies having equivalent widths greater than 10, 20, 50, and 100 Å are given in Table 1.…”
