The ArgoNeuT detector in the NuMI low-energy beam line at Fermilab

Abstract: The ArgoNeuT liquid argon time projection chamber has collected thousands of neutrino and antineutrino events during an extended run period in the NuMI beam-line at Fermilab. This paper focuses on the main aspects of the detector layout and related technical features, including the cryogenic equipment, time projection chamber, read-out electronics, and off-line data treatment. The detector commissioning phase, physics run, and first neutrino event displays are also reported. The characterization of the main wo… Show more

“…The ArgoNeuT [10] and ICARUS T600 [11] detectors have made a series of measurements useful in addressing questions regarding the ability of LArTPCs to provide precise calorimetric energy reconstruction of EM activity. Studies of recombination [12,13] and electron absorption [14] address the ability to recover information about the energy deposited in the TPC volume.…”

“…The MiniCLEAN, DEAP-3600, ArDM, and DarkSide collaborations are building such detectors [11,12,13,14]. LAr is also used for various neutrino measurements [12,15,16]. Others have used it as an active veto for neutrinoless double-beta-decay searches [1,17].…”

“…The modern high precision neutrino oscillation experiments require a percentage-level knowledge of the axial form factor and cross sections of CCQE processes (19). In several dedicated neutrino experiments (T2K [9], MINERVA [10], ArgoNeuT [11]) new measurements of CCQE cross section will be performed.…”
