The Application of Translation Strategies to Cope With Equivalence Problems in Translating Texts

Abstract: Translation is a process to render the meaning from the source text into the target text. A translator, however, will find some problems during translation process. Equivalence is the case which often appears (i.e. culture specific concept, the source-language concept is not lexicalized in the target language, source-language word is semantically complex, etc). To cope with equivalnce problems in translation process, some experts suggest some strategies which can be applied in doing translation. Some strategie… Show more

“…Understanding of the translation will increase along with facing difficulties in the translation process and the best solution to overcome the problem lies in the translator's point of view, because each translator has a specific strategy in translating different sources of translation (Schwarz et al, 2016). Furthermore, Aulia (2012) emphasized that translators must be able to understand the translation strategy and apply it if there are no matching words in the target language. In addition, the implementation of the translation strategy will help translator to get satisfactory translation results.…”

“…First of all, language differences cause the problem of non-equivalence in translating source text into target text (Melkumyan & Dabaghi, 2011). Aulia (2012) claims that the aim of the translation is to render source text and target text equivalent; thus the equivalence issue is quite important, and the difficulties in translation process constitute the equivalence problems. The author further suggests applying translation strategies to cope with the problems.…”
